Aspen

came from Gunnison Underdog Rescue. She is very unpredictable and a biter. Aspen nipped at every potential adopter, so she was at the end of her rope. We happily adopted Aspen.

Dakota

Dakota has Perianal Fistulas. It is a condition which is extremely painful and difficult to deal with. Dakota had her tail removed and her fistulas were removed and cauterized. She is better, but will never be 100%. Because of the difficulty and cost of Dakota’s medical issues, she will probably live with us for the rest of her life.

Bailey

Bailey came from GVAWL. She is super sweet, but very unpredictable. She went into a couple of homes, but was always returned for biting. Bailey was at the end of the rope, and we happily adopted her.

Rita

Rita belonged to a family, but unfortunately was very afraid of people. She had many bite incidents, and it was decided that her family could not keep her. Rita lives at the Sanctuary, and has become a training demo dog. She is super smart, and loves to be a part of the gang.

The Origins and Growth of Dog Cabin Ranch Sanctuary

Dog Cabin Ranch Sanctuary has its roots in the heart of Gunnison, Colorado, where it began as an extension of Dog Cabin Resort. The Resort was a bustling facility offering doggy daycare, boarding, training, and grooming services. It quickly became a haven for dogs in need, with many finding their way to the Resort due to various circumstances. The natural progression of this compassionate work led to the birth of Dog Cabin Ranch Sanctuary.

In June 2022, Dog Cabin Ranch Sanctuary was officially recognized as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. The creation of the sanctuary marked a significant milestone in our mission to provide a forever home for dogs with nowhere else to go. However, it soon became evident that the lively environment of Dog Cabin Resort, with its constant activity and stimuli, was not ideal for dogs requiring long-term care and a peaceful setting.

We recognized the need for a quieter and more serene environment, so we searched for a new location to establish the sanctuary. The journey took us across Colorado, but the high costs and stringent regulations made finding a suitable place within the state challenging. Undeterred, our search expanded beyond Colorado, and after several months, we discovered the perfect spot in Southwest Arkansas.

We found 15 acres of land in a beautiful rural area that offered the tranquility and space our dogs needed. The location was everything we had hoped for—a peaceful, natural setting where our sanctuary could thrive. This new home allows us to provide the care, attention, and environment our dogs deserve, away from the hustle and bustle of the Resort.

Expanding Our Mission: The Role of Rescue at Dog Cabin Ranch Sanctuary

When we arrived at our new location in Southwest Arkansas, it became clear that our mission needed to expand beyond providing a forever home for dogs with nowhere else to go. The rural area where we settled is home to a significant number of homeless dogs, and the lack of local rescue resources highlighted an urgent need for intervention.

As a result, rescue has become a central part of what we do at Dog Cabin Ranch Sanctuary. While our primary focus remains on offering sanctuary to dogs often overlooked due to behavioral or medical challenges, we now actively engage in rescue efforts to address the pressing issue of dog homelessness in the surrounding community.

This shift in focus has allowed us to make an even more significant impact, not just by providing a haven for dogs in need but also by actively reducing the number of homeless dogs in the area. Our rescue initiatives include bringing in stray and abandoned dogs, providing them with necessary medical care, and working diligently to find them loving homes whenever possible.

The need for rescue in this rural region is significant, and we are committed to doing our part to help as many dogs as possible. By combining our sanctuary efforts with active rescue work, Dog Cabin Ranch Sanctuary continues to evolve and adapt to meet the needs of the dogs in our care and the broader community.

Today, Dog Cabin Ranch Sanctuary is a testament to our commitment to these dogs. We continue to provide care and dedication in finding homes for dogs whenever possible and when providing the loving home they deserve is impossible.  Our journey from a doggy daycare in Colorado to a dedicated sanctuary in Arkansas reflects our unwavering dedication to the well-being of dogs and our belief that every dog deserves a chance at a happy life.
